building History
The Cornerstone
Built in 1922, the Rennie-Smith building on 3rd and Madison quickly became the hub of downtown Corvallis. As the original home of J.C. Penney on the main floor and a dance hall upstairs, this is where the community came together.
Albright & Raw
Before big box stores and the internet, communities relied upon local merchants for their needs. After J.C. Penney left in 1949, Albright & Raw Drug Store moved in and remained a cornerstone of Corvallis life for 58 years, finally closing their doors in 2007. During this time, two world changing organizations occupied the upstairs offices - CH2MHill and Rogue Wave Software.
The Future
During the 2000's and 2010's 3rd and Madison was home to Many Hands Trading and DevNW. Both were well-respected organizations serving the community. In 2022 and 2023 the interior of the building was restored and upgraded. The main floor will be the home to Guardian Games where people come together to play tabletop games, develop new connections, and create community. The upstairs became known as The 257 and will be the new home to Corvallis' top professionals.
